As I’ve gone on this journey with my psoriasis over the last ten years, it’s become clear that eating healthy is the number one thing I can control to get my skin to heal itself.

But it’s HARD.

REALLY hard.

There are so many delicious foods out there (and I love food!), but having healthy skin is more important to me than the temporary enjoyment of a specific dish or treat.

Believe me, I’m tempted with different things to eat. And rather than giving in, I slowly count backwards from five: “5…4…3…2…1…” and make a decision about whether I’d rather have that treat to enjoy for a few moments or keep healthy skin for the long haul. Mel Robbins talks about this very technique in her book, The 5 Second Rule.

It’s something I’ve been trying to incorporate into my daily life. It takes the emotion out of wanting something, and just take a breath before giving in.

As part of this, I’ve been putting together a series of what I’m calling memes, for lack of a better term. I’m hopeful that these memes are inspirational, help you to think a little, and encourage you to be your best person.

You are more than welcome to share them on your own social media, and I’d be honored if you tag me with @thepsoriasisguy. (Please just don’t alter the images or the meta data.)
